The photograph known as ‘The Blue Marble’ was captured on December 7, 1972, depicting Earth from a distance of approximately 33,000 kilometers above its surface.

Since its capture, this image of Earth has transformed into an icon and symbol of the global networking era. It portrays everything and everyone interconnected on this tiny, beautiful marble suspended in the vast universe. Our human perspective expands infinitely through mathematical scaling, akin to the cinematic presentation in ‘Powers of Ten’ (1977) by Charles and Ray Eames.

However, Donna Haraway characterizes this boundless human perspective as ‘an illusion and god trick.’ In my lecture performance ‘Blue Marble démasquée,’ I aim to contemplate the validity of the space photograph ‘The Blue Marble’ as the definitive Earthly vision, while also endeavoring to discover a more embodied perspective.
